I love this game and I'm tempted to play a half randomized playthrough when I get back around to it. That stacked with the revival ring is really funny, though I often gave the ring to Serenoa instead to balance it out since he was one of my other frontliners. This is good for general insurance, but can be especially nasty if you utilize and plan with it to get a good foothold into enemy territory.
It's kind of like setting up in checkers where you can keep taking pieces as long as you are able to with one piece. He can pull off moves that will take him into enemy territory and back in one turn. Iirc maxwell isn't a fighter with a clear gimmick at first, unlike a lot of other ones who are pretty clear from the get go, but as you get more skills he becomes really good when you set up placement with him in mind. However, while Roland has a different playstyle, you could easily replace him with maxwell to get a feel for the latter. Bear in mind I played this game a while ago and haven't brushed up much.
